Sun into Taurus; rooting and blossoming

As the Sun moves into Taurus, here in the northern half of the globe all is abundance. Nature is blossoming, blooming, greening. Taurus is the sign of fixed earth but of course the earth is never fixed, she is always in flux, in motion, seeding and growing and releasing. Taurus energy connects us with the gifts of our senses - the colours of wild flowers, the scent of blossom, the sound of bees humming through the blossom. Taurus is an abundant, giving energy, reminding us that we are always enough. So Taurus season is for grounding ourselves. For remembering that we are nature, for connecting deeply with the “soft animal of our body”. Taurus is a deeply physical sign and Taurus season reminds us that we don’t need to leave the body, the physical, the material realm behind to connect with spirit. The lesson of Taurus season is that the material and the physical, nature Herself is the way to the spiritual, is the spiritual.

The Sun moves into Taurus at the same time as Mercury this time. They are conjunct in the very last degree of Aries and then move into Taurus within a few hours of each other. So perhaps we move into Taurus season a little more mindfully than usual, a little more aware of our place in the great web of connections, of our exchanges of energy and information. With the Sun and Mercury together in Taurus, we are more able to root into our instinctive knowing, the wisdom of our bodies and our senses and the earth beneath our feet.

The chart for the Taurus Ingress (when the Sun moves into Taurus) has both the Sun and Mercury square to the Moon in Cancer. So the coming weeks might also find us facing up to issues around material and emotional security, the resources we have (both inner and outer) and the way that we use them. Mars moves into Cancer on April 23rd, linking action with emotion and bringing some strong defensive energy, especially for those with lots of planets in the cardinal signs.

April 23rd also sees the beginning of a series of conjunctions between the personal planets and Uranus - Venus meets Uranus on the 23rd, then Mercury on the 24th and finally the Sun on the 30th. Each of these connections has the potential to trigger Uranus in Taurus issues, breaking us out of any stagnant energy and pushing us to find new ways to use our resources. (You can read more about Uranus in Taurus here)

As we move into May, the energy begins to shift. Having put down our roots in Taurus, we can feel safe enough to look up, to look out, to cast our interest wider. There’s a lightening up as Mercury moves into its home sign of Gemini on May 4th, followed by Venus on May 9th. On the 10th, Mercury meets the North Node in Gemini, followed by Venus a little later on the 17th. All of this is to say that we’ll be looking beyond ourselves, making connections, developing our curiosity about the world, about ourselves, about each other. Gemini energy brings the ability to join the dots, to understand where we’ve come from and where we might be going. By the time the Sun moves into Gemini on ~May 20th, the world, or at least our perception of it, may seem quite different.
