Full Moon Astro-Tarot; Holding on and Letting go
The full moon in Taurus on November 12 (exact in the early afternoon where I am in the UK) awakens the dynamic of material and emotional security. Taurus and Scorpio are fixed signs, earth and water respectively which are the two "slowest" elements, so there's some very grounded energy here. The full moon takes us deep, into ourselves, into our relationships, in our past. She highlights what we have built, and are building, over time, the patterns that define our lives and give us a solid foundation for growth. This is root energy, the season here in the northern hemisphere when plants and animals draw their energy back into themselves, preparing for the long winter. This full moon asks what keeps you rooted? what drives your sense of security, emotional as well as material?
But of course, holding on isn't always a good thing. Sometimes we hold on too strongly or for too long, finding the familiar easier than the hard work of breaking out and staying authentic. This full moon asks where are you holding on too tightly? If the patterns which define our lives have become stagnant or habitual, we may be shifting them with this full moon. With Mercury still retrograde in Scorpio, all kinds of things may be surfacing from deep within us. Emotional patterns and our shadow selves, old history which still affects us, repressed or unexpressed emotions. The dynamic of Taurus and Scorpio illuminates deep conditioning, psychic, social and even ancestral. We may be understanding how our past and our emotional inheritance affects us. There are many festivals and traditions at this time of year which honour the ancestors and the past, allowing us to connect with ancestors of blood and ancestors of spirit, acknowledging their teachings and working to transform any energies we are carrying which they have passed down to us.
Just two tarot cards this time, in keeping with the deep focus of this full moon.
Moon in Taurus - What keeps us rooted? - Page of Arrows
It's interesting that what keeps us rooted is actually our ability to fly! The Page of Arrows is curious, open, intelligent. It's not a particularly rooted card, perhaps reinforcing the message that building something solid and then staying there is not a healthy approach for us. We stay grounded by always being open to the new, ready to embrace change, to seek a new path. The heart in the background shows even when we are concerned with consciousness and learning, we are always on a journey to our emotional self and to what gives life meaning. In some traditions, the woodpeckers shown in this card symbolise initiation, as they move up trees in a spiral pattern. We stay rooted by not getting complacent or assuming that we know everything, but by being willing to learn and to grow. Human beings have always been explorers, seeking out new places and new knowledge just because we can, for the sheer joy of it. At our heart, we are seekers of meaning, not of material wealth or power or whatever the media are telling us we want this week.
Sun in Scorpio - What is illuminated in the depths? - Six of Wands
Buried treasure! This may be root time but in the harvest are the seeds of the next cycle, of a new phase of growth. We are composting down at this time of year, allowing our energy to go deep and transform us. The Sun in Scorpio shows us the seeds of this transformation, perhaps even a hint of what might grow if we nurture it. Having taken in our final harvest of the year, now we honour all the gifts and blessings the past year has brought us. This card can also mean validation and self confidence, how our experience and the growth of this cycle strengthens our self belief and our ability to be truly ourselves.
