Full Moon Astro-Tarot: Power and Liberation
The full moon in Aries, exact at 22.07 on Sunday 13th October here in London, brings some powerful energies. The Moon is trine (so the Sun is sextile) Jupiter, currently at home in Sagittarius, and Moon and Sun also square Pluto in Capricorn. Within a few hours of the full moon, Jupiter makes an exact sesquiquadrate to Uranus, two planets of awakening and higher truths. Full moons often bring something to a head, bringing background energies into the light and illuminating experiences which may have been on the periphery of our awareness. This one is especially powerful, triggering as it does the dynamic between Pluto in Capricorn established power (and the need to transform it) and Jupiter and Uranus with their love of truth and freedom. This is perfect symbolism for the Extinction Rebellion currently in progress worldwide, with its aim of using radical means to awaken those who are still sleeping, unaware of the desperation of the situation. A few days after the full moon, Jupiter makes a semi-sextile aspect with Pluto, a potentially helpful connection which awakens the possibility that common ground might be found. Or the control freaks will get even more powerful and the truth even more distant, Jupiter does have a way of exaggerating what's already happening.
The moon in Aries is assertive, decisive, even impulsive. Here is the fighting energy of activists whose courage surpasses their fear, or perhaps whose courage is born of their fear. The dynamic between the Moon in Aries and the Sun in diplomatic Libra reminds us that acting without thinking is unlikely to be successful in the long run. With the Moon in Aries, there is a risk that only those who shout the loudest will be heard, and there's certainly plenty of that about. Compromise and diplomacy, the Libra end of the axis, are not feeling so likely right now. I look forward to being surprised.
So what do the tarot cards have to say about this full moon? Here's my wisdom reading for the collective, do let me know if you try this for yourself.
Card One - Moon trine Jupiter - How can we use this energy for the greater good? - Judgement
It's time to respond to the inner call, even to make the difficult choice. "To choose what is right, or what is easy" This is a transformative card, associated with Pluto according to many. Perhaps we need to expand (Jupiter) our personal power (Pluto) in order to work towards the greater good?
Card Two - Moon square Pluto - How can we transform outdated power structures? - the Archer
The Greenwood Archer is traditionally known as the Chariot, a card of movement and control. Transforming outdated power structures calls for focused action and a clear perspective. Perhaps the message of this card is that it's not only important to know where we are going and how we are going to get there, but also why. Pluto breaks down and destroys, so what do we build in its place?
Card Three - Jupiter sesquiquadrate Uranus - How can we awaken to true liberation? - Two of Cups
This is the perfect Libra card, calling us to open to the "other", to allow ourselves to be vulnerable and make authentic connections. We may need to keep in mind what we mean by "other", especially if the people around us share our worldview and values. To truly connect we need to open up to those who see the world differently to us, who may have different values and worldviews. We can't be truly free living in our bubble.
