Monthly Astro Forecast: New Moon in Pisces
This new moon finds us fully in Pisces season and the healing theme of the last full moon continues. This new moon carries some strong healing potential, a deep awareness of how interconnected we all are and what that means for how we live. Or a whole lot of confusion and even delusion. With Pisces, it can go either way. Pisces energy is both watery and mutable and simply can't be controlled. We can learn to go with the flow, align ourselves with the movement around us, but imposing our will just isn't going to happen. This is a new moon of mystery, magic, imagination, a magical mystery tour through our inner selves, our beliefs and imagination. In the new moon chart, Neptune is close to the Moon and Sun, adding an extra depth of mystery and magic. The modern ruler of Pisces, Neptune is nebulous, vague, even foggy. And also dreamy, imaginative, mystical. It's the planet of illusions and delusions, dreams and fantasies.
If we want to make the most of this new moon, we need boundaries. We need to know our goal, but at the same time not be attached to it. We need to be flexible, to consider the whole, not just the individual parts, to work for collective healing rather than personal gain. Pisces energy is transcending energy, it goes beyond the individual and flows back into the universal. It asks us to open up, to make ourselves a channel for whatever wants to come through, to surrender to what needs to come into being. Surrender is key here, along with non-attachment. As the final sign of the zodiac, Pisces carries the energy of letting go, of release.
The day before the new moon (so March 5th), Mercury turns retrograde in Pisces and for the next few weeks (until March 28) will seem to travel backwards in the sky. Retrograde phases are a turning inward, an invitation to take a step off our path and look back, to see how far we've come. Trying to move forward under this influence is likely to remind us of the power and persistence of water as we are swept in the opposite direction or a different direction entirely. It may be a subtle influence, a gradual shift or wearing down, a slowing of momentum. Depending on where Pisces and Mercury fall in our own charts, it may be a subtle internal shift or a wave of transformation. The combination of Pisces new moon and Mercury retrograde make this the perfect time for magical working, meditation, anything which shifts our consciousness away from the everyday. Anything which helps us to align our own energies with the greater forces working around us. It's a good time for self reflection and inner work, for allowing our dreams of a new reality to take form and to inspire us.
The same day as the new moon, unconventional Uranus moves on into Taurus, for good this time. I'm really hoping this placement brings a radical shift in the way we, as a collective, connect with the earth. Lately the young are giving me hope, the older generation currently in power quite the opposite. If we don't make this shift, fast as well as radical, we're doomed. Simple as that. Trans-personal planets in earth signs give us an opportunity to manifest changes in the collective as well as in our personal lives. Uranus in Taurus looks at our Pisceans dreams and visions and asks what we are doing to make them real?
The other outer planet which is most active during the coming lunation is Pluto, transiting Capricorn and challenging that generation who seem to want to hold onto power, to the established way of doing things, to the hierarchy which they are at the top of, at any cost. There's a helpful connection with visionary Jupiter in Sagittarius on March 7th, then on 28th March Pluto meets the South Node, opposing the North Node in emotionally led Cancer. This brings an opportunity to transform our experience of both emotional and material security, to let go of focusing on material security and social status and find a more empathetic approach. Focus on people rather than things, love rather than money, what nourishes us rather than what nourishes and outdated and disconnected System. What I see around me, at least here in the UK, makes me sceptical at best. But - repeat after me - hope is a radical act....The more of us that do the work, for our inner selves and for the world around us, the more likely it is that change will reach critical mass.
28th March is also the day Mercury turns direct again, so the end of the month is definitely a time to watch out for. On 31st March Mars moves into Gemini, giving voice to our anger and our passions. A few days earlier on March 26th, Venus arrives in Pisces, the sign of her exaltation. Universal love and deep connection, so much mutable energy eddying and swirling around us, bringing changes and shifts in consciousness.
