Sun into Pisces; turbulence and flow.
A stormy weekend here in the UK, which is most of my excuse for this blog being rather later than I would have liked. I had planned to write it while I was away teaching on the Faculty’s Winter Weekend, but Storm Eunice brought power supply issues at the retreat centre which meant no WiFi. So I walked in the woods instead, amongst winds and fallen mossy branches and even icy hail. And then there was no heating, and when the water supply went too, they closed and we had to come home twenty fours hours early. So it was quite the elemental cauldron. We had fun with the astrological symbolism though, Jupiter sextile Uranus that weekend, lights flashing on and off, a fly on the touch screen display sending PowerPoint slides into chaos. The power supply problems came from a fuse box in the field - how much more Uranus in Taurus could you get?!
And of course, lessons in how we are still - always - living with uncertainty. The Sun moved into Pisces just a couple of hours before the retreat launched, a retreat held in the Piscean stillness of Ammerdown, a centre of Christian retreat and practice. The other folks there were studying poetry and the psalms - so much Piscean symbolism around us. Our plan was to descend into the underworld, reflecting on the astrology of the last two years and emerging into the possibilities and inspiration held by Jupiter conjunct Neptune in Pisces in April (on which more to follow). We completed our weekend’s journey as best we could in the time we had. In the coming weeks, the Sun will meet Jupiter on March 5th and then Neptune on March 13th, gently illuminating each of them as they move towards their own meeting.
Meanwhile, Venus and Mars are just moving on from their conjunction in Capricorn, keeping our feet on the ground. They are travelling together for a while, visiting the underworld of Pluto on March 3rd before moving on into the bright clarity of Aquarius on March 6th, meeting each other exactly again on the same day. Even in Pisces season, the hierarchies and practicalities of Capricorn are still visible. Perhaps the gentle energy of Pisces softens them and opens a flow of inspiration, allowing some creative possibilities to take form. On March 10th, Mercury joins the Sun in Pisces, awakening intuition and imagination. Pisces season calls us to focus on devotion, on what we are devoting ourselves to beyond our individual needs and desires. This is the sign of dissolution, the surrender, letting go, the end of the zodiac cycle. It’s a time for dreaming something new into being - because it can’t take form unless we imagine it first.
