Full Moon Astro-Tarot: Expanding Connections
The full moon on June 17 (exact at 9.30am here in the UK) falls in Sagittarius, the sign of mutable fire. It brings inspiration and open-mindedness, vision and expansion. This is an extrovert full moon, looking out to the world around us and our place in it. It brings energy, stimulation, activity, so you might have plenty going on as the moon reaches fullness. Sagittarius is the visionary of the zodiac, the seeker, like the tarot Knights riding off on a quest. Sometimes the movement is more important than the destination. Sagittarius energy is confident to the point of recklessness, trusting, risk-taking. The full moon in Sagittarius illuminates the fire in our souls. What inspires us, lifts us up out of the mundane and into connection with something beyond ourselves? Symbolised by the archer, the Sagittarius full moon asks where we are aiming the arrow of our soul?
Of course, the full moon is always an energy of relationship, with the Sun in the opposite sign to the Moon, so that the whole dynamic of those two signs is activated. With the Sun in Gemini and the Moon in Sagittarius, we become aware of what we know and what we don't know, what we believe, and how those are different. Not to mention how we live by our beliefs - do they inspire our growth and understanding, or are they an imposed truth, an internalised dogma which limits us instead of expanding us?
The dynamic of Sagittarius and Gemini show us the web, the connections between us of people, places, ideas, beliefs, life, the universe and everything. These two signs show us how we are connected, to whom and to what, what form those connections take. Gemini might be seen as the individual connections, whereas Sagittarius shows us the whole web. So with a full moon in Sagittarius, the whole web is illuminated, giving us the chance to see where we fit in, to broaden our understanding and see who as well as where we are.
Just two simple questions for my tarot wisdom reading this time -
Sun in Gemini - what connections are we making to the web of life? - Wheel of Fortune
I love this card here because it shows that our connections are ever-changing. Nothing stays the same, the web of life is not static or fixed. It's perpetually in motion, as we all are, atoms spinning together and apart again. The moon and the sun are in this image, animals and other beings, reminding us that the web of life is myriad, encompassing not just people and ideas but all of life on this planet, deep archetypes and tiny insects, the seasons of nature, the ever-expanding universe.
Moon in Sagittarius - how can we expand our vision of the web of life? - Three of Cups
I was immediately drawn to the circular movement in the image, connecting us to the circles and spirals of life, in time as well as space. We expand our vision of the web of life by connecting to our feelings, which connect us to the flow of life. The love and support we share with the people and other beings around us are what link us to that greater web. There's also a message here about opening up and receiving energy, rather than trying to control it. Some connections are made and maintained consciously, others happen whether we like it or not. All are equally important.
