Monthly Astro-Forecast: New Moon in Taurus
The new moon in Taurus, at 11.45pm on Friday May 4th here in London, brings a seed point of manifesting energy, embodied in the earth and a drive towards tangible growth. Taurus is the sign of fixed earth and a new moon in Taurus reminds us of the power of our senses and the gifts and energies of our bodies. This new moon brings em-bodied energy, prompting us to make, build, create something real. This is the energy of body-mind, of hand-mind, the inner knowing which is expressed through our physical bodies and sometimes bypasses our intellect completely.
A new moon in Taurus is a good time to set intentions around physical practice, perhaps eating more mindfully or paying attention to how we move our bodies and why. This is also a good time to begin creative projects, and it's said that a project started under a Taurus moon will be enduring. Taurus is the builder of the zodiac, concerned with material security and solid foundations. It's a good new moon if you want to make changes in your work or domestic situation, as Taurus is a very practical sign. Matter and spirit are not separate, they are closely intertwined. For me, spirituality is not about transcending the material but about living it more deeply.
Whatever seeds we are planting at the new moon, Taurus as the gardener of the zodiac asks us to pay attention to what we are cultivating at this time. Whether we are nourishing literal seeds to grow our own food, a creative project or a phase of personal growth, we are asked to focus on slow steady progress, to have patience and take time, however challenging that might be in today's fast-paced world.
Mercury moves into Taurus on May 6, followed by Venus, ruling planet of Taurus, on May 15. Both planets meet Uranus in the early degrees of Taurus, (Mercury on May 8 and Venus on May 18), prompting flashes of insight and an urge for space and independence. Mid-May is peak season for Taurus energy and we are likely to be hard at work manifesting those new moon intentions. With Uranus in Taurus, we need to be ready for unexpected changes, to be true to ourselves and not just follow convention. Jupiter in Sagittarius meets Pluto in Capricorn on May 9th, reminding us of the wealth to be found in the underworld and perhaps revealing some uncomfortable truths. Watch out for exaggeration around that time, truths being denied more blatantly than ever, wealth being stashed away by the lucky few. Jupiter asks us to act with honesty and integrity, but I'm sceptical about how much of that we'll see from those clutching on to their Pluto in Capricorn power.
Venus clashes with stern Saturn and the nodal axis on May 7th and we may need to watch out for fears and self-doubt surfacing around this time. Focusing on what we truly value and how to manifest it will be helpful, especially for our relationships and our self-belief. When the nodal axis is triggered, we have an opportunity to grow out of our comfort zone, using the resources we've built up in our lifetimes (or in many lifetimes, perhaps!). This energy returns around May 20th when Saturn meets the South Node in Capricorn. Something from our past may reappear around that time, ready to teach us something about our present. Saturn can be a harsh teacher but always brings the opportunity to consolidate our self-knowledge and personal growth, gaining mastery and self-definition. Saturn shows us who we are, the parts of ourselves we don't like as well as the parts we do.
On May 21st, both the Sun and Mercury move into Gemini, shifting us to a lighter, more versatile energy. We might feel better able to adapt to change as we move into Gemini season, more open and curious about life. We move out of our bodies and into our heads, assimilating information, gathering ideas and sharing them with others. Whereas Taurus can be quite self-contained, Gemini needs interaction - with other people, with the environment, the more stimulation the better. By the new moon in Gemini on June 3rd, life is likely to be speeding up as we head for the Solstice and peak summer energy.
