Monthly Astro Forecast; New Moon in Aquarius

It's a few days after Imbolc and I'm late with this new moon post (which rarely happens - don't hold it against me!). I've been working hard, but not really feeling the Imbolc stirrings and the awakening energy of the season. As the moon waxes and aligns with the waxing solar energies I'm hoping spring will start to feel closer, or rather that I will feel more connected with what I can see happening around me. I'm strongly Aquarian (it's my solar return tomorrow) and this new moon in Aquarius falls close to my Sun in my first house. We can all tune into the energies of the lunar cycle, but when it aligns we are own charts, it's oh so much more powerful.

The new moon on February 4th was at the midway point of Aquarius and brings a visionary energy. There are minor but helpful aspects from Saturn in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces on either side of the sun and moon. Aquarius is a sign focused on collective energies, so it's fitting that it should have the assistance of planets concerned with more than the merely personal. Overall, this new moon, whilst it lacks the intensity of the recent eclipses, can be a seed point for a new collective vision. Instead of dwelling on the chaos around us and all the things that are wrong with the world, this new moon asks us to come up with genuine alternatives. Neptune in Pisces brings inspiration, mystery and magic, balanced by Saturn in Capricorn's dose of realism and manifesting power. Both of these planets are at home in their own signs, meaning they can work at their best and express their energies most clearly. It's time to stop complaining about what's not working and do the work, make the shift.
Mars is active early in February, helping us to choose our cause and devote our energies to it. On February 7th it squares the nodal axis, asking us how our identity is linked to our sense of security. Do we focus on the material and what keeps us safe, or do we live by deeper values? When Mars meets Uranus on February 13th in the last degrees of Aries it brings the power to take decisive and radical action. The following day Mars moves into Taurus (to be followed in a few weeks by Uranus) ready to manifest tangible change. Mars in Taurus is slower energy, more grounded and also more persistent. In Taurus, Mars may struggle to get started but once the spark of action is lit will never give up. Unlike Aries, Taurus is a finisher.

Venus in Capricorn also adds manifesting energy this lunation. She meets disciplined Saturn on February 18th and Pluto on February 23rd. These connections might not feel easy (all the heavy planets are in Capricorn right now) but they are powerful. Venus conjunct Pluto might bring a revisit of the Venus in Scorpio revelations of a few months ago, visions of the dark goddess rising. On February 25th Venus meets the South Node, the repository of our past and the values which support us. We are asked what nourishes us and how we are supporting each other. Finally, there is a breath of fresh air on 1st March when Venus moves into Aquarius. We can break out of the conventional, be true to our own unique values and find ways to relate to each other with truth, honesty and openness.
Trickster Mercury moves into Pisces on February 10th. This is another placement that needs a little awareness to make it work, as watery Pisces doesn't get on well with logic and order. Here Mercury is free-flowing, intuitive and imagination. Especially around 19th February when Mercury meets mystical Neptune, non-verbal communication might be easier than trying to grasp for words which don't quite convey our experience. On March 5th, just before the next new moon, Mercury goes retrograde and will seem to move backwards through Pisces until 29th March. This is a time to be aware of what's beneath the surface, to be sensitive to our deeper feelings and those of others. It's a time to express ourselves through art and poetry, to honour the subjective rather than the objective. Pisces energy can feel chaotic but also mystical, magical and inspirational. Mercury retrograde in Pisces asks us to let go of our established thought patterns and allow ourselves to be a channel for divine inspiration.
