Full Moon Astro-Tarot for the Master Builder
The build up to the full moon in Capricorn has, somewhat predictably, brought lots of practical challenges and everyday matters which have demanded my attention, which is why this full moon reading is a day or two later than I'd like. Car issues, work issues, house renovation slowness, the structures around me shifting. But in most cases and with a little hard work, the seemingly reliable forms which have broken down are being replaced with something more stable, more positive, full of possibilities. Its all good.
And so a week after the peak point of the Solstice comes the full moon, across the Capricorn Cancer axis of security, foundations. This dynamic is about knowing where we belong, who and where we are in our tribe, in the social hierarchy which makes up our world. The moon in Capricorn is closely conjunct Saturn retrograde in Capricorn, turning our attention to our inner structures, the boundaries we build for ourselves. The Sun opposite in Cancer asks us to soften those boundaries, to allow ourselves to be vulnerable, to go with the flow of our emotions and be tender with ourselves. In combination, these energies might mean that we retreat into our Cancerian shell a little, allowing the walls of Saturn to protect our feelings. This keeps us safe, but also stops us from making authentic connections with others, not to mention with ourselves.
So. My new moon posts are all about the forecast for the lunation, so I thought for the full moon I'd do something a little different. I'm going to do a tarot reading around the energies of the full moon chart and the questions raised by them, the ways we can best use this full moon energy. I'm doing this reading for collective wisdom, but you can try it for yourself so see how this dynamic is playing out for you personally.
Moon in Capricorn - What structures in life help us to feel safe? Greenwoman
Of course - the primal energy of the Mother, the Earth goddess who brings life to birth in all its forms. I'm reminded that in the Kabbalah, the sphere Binah is the supernal Mother, and is associated astrologically with the planet Saturn. In being given life, we are also given limitation. Of the physical body, of our mortality. The Great Mother keeps us safe by giving us a container, a safe place in which to grow. The container of our body, of this planet on which we live and whose resources sustain us.
Saturn retrograde in Capricorn - How are our inner (mental, emotional, spiritual) structures serving us? Ace of Stones
The name of this card says it all. Our inner structures are our foundation, they underpin the way we are in the world and the work we do in the world. Because with Saturn in the mix, there's always work involved. The Ace here asks us to look afresh at the assumptions we make, the systems that we take for granted as "just the way life is", whether they are within ourselves or external to us. The carvings on the standing stone remind us that the realm of earth is sacred, and that all of the structures we build in the world are a reflection of what is sacred to us.
Sun in Cancer - Where can we allow ourselves to be vulnerable? Strength
We are vulnerable whenever we connect to our inner strength, to our wildest, most authentic self. Our vulnerability and our strength are inextricably linked, and its easy to fall into the habit of using strength as something to give us power over others. Being strong can be a way of hiding our insecurities and trying to control the world around us. That's maybe a rather Capricorn approach. But the Sun in Cancer gently illuminates any Capricornian control freakery, and asks us to release it. Instead of hiding from our emotions or our fears, we can let them be our strength, the wild self that guides us to power from within.
