Sun into Sagittarius; wandering the byways of truth

Sagittarius is the wanderer of the zodiac, a restless questing energy that pushes us always to go that little bit further, higher, broader. In the Sagittarius Ingress chart (the chart for the Sun moving into Sagittarius), the Sun is close to the South Node, meeting that point the following day. South Node in Sagittarius brings a belief that we know what is truth, what is reality, what has meaning - isn’t it obvious? - but the shadow of Sagittarius is becoming too convinced of these truths, no longer questioning them, forgetting what meaning they might once have had. This Sagittarius season starts with the Sun illuminating our South Node assumptions. With Jupiter, ruler of Sagittarius, still in radical Aquarius and making some awkward aspects to the outer planets, there might be some awkward questions about the substance - or lack of it - behind our beliefs and assumptions and also about our ability to act on those beliefs. Meanwhile, Mercury, arriving in Sagittarius on November 25th, flits about excitedly gathering new truths and inspirations and intuitions, wandering the byways of our beliefs and meandering down all kinds of lateral thinking distractions. Mercury in Sagittarius knows there are many truths and wants to believe them all - six impossible things before breakfast.

But sooner or later, there will be a reckoning, or rather a new phase of the reckoning we are already living through. On November 27th Saturn in Aquarius forms a sextile with Chiron in Aries, evoking teacher energy, enabling the warrior to gain mastery, the pioneer and the revolutionary to work together. Genuine change is unlikely to be born from an existing paradigm - so what do we need to release? That’s the theme for this year, building in intensity again as Capricorn energy begins to build in December. This is always the dynamic as we shift from Sagittarius to Capricorn season - we dream it in Sagittarius but sooner or later, we actually have to do it, to give our ideas Capricorn form and structure, otherwise our grand Sagittarius vision is no more than hot air and daydreams, however worthy. Venus meets Pluto in Capricorn on December 11th, calling us to question what we value and to consider the resources we actually need to survive. Mercury arrives in Capricorn a few days later, over-excited with Sagittarius visions and in need of some earthy focus and discipline. And on December 19th, a couple of days before the Solstice point when the Sun moves into Capricorn, Venus turns retrograde. So our Capricorn season may be especially intense, especially with a final exact hit of Saturn square Uranus just after the Solstice - there’s the push - pull of the paradigm shift again. For now, we are in visioning season, reflection and contemplation season, and the deeper and broader and higher we go, the more meaningful change we’ll be able to create when the time comes.
