Full Moon Astro-Tarot; Resistance and Awakening

The full moon in Taurus is closely conjunct Uranus so that although this ought to be a calm, even serene, full moon in settled Taurus, there may be some surprises. The Taurus Scorpio axis tends towards stability, even permanence and both of these signs can have a tendency to resist change. This dynamic can be about what we possess, or seek to possess, what we cling to and allow to define us. This might be material possessions or wealth, or the lack of them, but could also be people, feelings or ways of being. So often we project our self worth onto our material worth, or the worth other people seem to assign us. Enter Uranus, stage right, with a short sharp shock to crack us open, letting some light in to see where we've been holding on too strongly or have become too comfortable. There is some deep rooted power getting ready to erupt here - I'm forever telling folks that resistance is a teacher, a sign of power we are not acknowledging or owning.

This dynamic highlights security and stability and may challenge us to define more authentically exactly what we mean by those and how they manifest for us personally. The resistance often comes from perceived threats to our security but like everything in life, the more we can find what we need within us, the less we are tempted to seek it in something, or someone, outside of ourselves. And of course the less we are fearful of losing it.

The reality of our connection with the earth, with the nature around us, is also awakened by this full moon. We are asked to consider our resources and our attitude to those resources - do we take them for granted, do we take more than we need or just the right amount? What are our highest values and are we living by them? This is a collective issue of course and attitudes to resources and the use and abuse of them need a major overhaul in capitalist society. And capitalist society prevents many of us from living by our true values, or to least forces us to compromise them. Well hello, Uranus, awakener and bringer of radical change. The Sun in Scorpio reminds us of the need for regeneration, the need to allow that which has passed its time to die back and make space. For an innovative new approach, genuinely new ways to connect with and care for Mother Earth, starting with the sensory gifts of the Taurus full moon. My suggestion for this Samhain full moon is that we all get outside, under the wide Uranian sky, connect with Mother Earth however we can, let go of all our personal baggage - and simply listen.

As usual, I've turned to the tarot for some extra insight on the energies of this full moon.

Moon in Taurus - How can we honour the gifts of nature? - Queen of Pentacles

For me, the Queens hold the energy of their suit and transform it, or rather give it space to transform itself. So perhaps we need to make space for nature to be its own wild, self-willed self, to let go of any assumptions that we know best except perhaps for some gentle nurturing. And we can honour the gifts of nature by accepting them gratefully, instead of giving in to guilt or fear or over-thinking. Allowing ourselves to be nature and to flow with the nature around us is a powerful practice.

Moon conjunct Uranus - What is awakening us to a new reality? - Justice

Well yes. 2020 and its various dramas have shown up the imbalances in society and in the world even more starkly than usual, with the haves peering arrogantly at the have nots from their slightly higher twig or worse, not even noticing the have nots. We are going through a process of re-balancing, perhaps of adjusting the centre so that the extremes can find their Right level. Or perhaps of adjusting the extremes so that we can centre ourselves more authentically.

Sun in Scorpio - Where and how do we need to regenerate? - Knight of Cups

There's a dual process here (echoes of the Justice card again) of letting go of delusions and illusions whilst also embracing our ability to feel, to imagine, to intuit. This year has been an emotional rollercoaster and perhaps we need to regenerate not just the way that we honour our feelings but also the collective expectations we have around emotions. The Sun in Scorpio illuminates all of our deepest feelings, reminding us that they are all valid and usually necessary.
