Full Moon Astro-Tarot; Wellness and the Collective
Monday, March 9th brings a full moon at 19° Virgo, early in the evening here in the UK. The Virgo Pisces dynamic is order and chaos, practical and spiritual. The Moon in Virgo and the Sun in Pisces are united by an urge to give service, to transcend the self by connecting with the collective. Virgo asks us how we can make a practical difference in the world even as Pisces calls us to merge, to transcend, to go with our inner flow. Even the smallest actions can change the world, especially if we shift our perspective to let go of our Pisces illusions and see the world as it really is. So this full moon brings some sensible earth energy to ground the watery flow of Pisces. The Virgo Pisces dynamic is concerned with health and well-being - spiritual, physical, mental and every other kind. And here we are in the midst of a worldwide epidemic, with Virgoan exhortations everywhere to wash our hands, to keep ourselves and our environments clean.
Virgo is very much the sign of hygiene and of course, hygiene is not just physical. This full moon might illuminate the ways we need to take care of our health on every level, as individuals, as a collective and for the planet. Where and how do we need to be more hygienic, not just to keep dis-ease in check? Are we choosing our words and actions carefully, based on Piscean values of kindness, empathy and sensitivity? Hygiene can be moral and ethical as well, although there seems precious little of it about amongst the powers that be, who are all about the most negative kinds of Piscean illusion and most definitely only serve themselves. And maybe their billionaire friends. Virgo energy is all about discernment, making careful choices for the benefit of all. I tend to see a kind of grassroots energy in Virgo too, doing what needs to be done where it needs to be done, making practical changes where they are most effective.
The full moon in Virgo makes some awkward aspects to Venus and Uranus, both currently transiting fellow earth sign Taurus, the sign of possessions and attachment and "stuff". Well-being and self-care are big business these days, just like everything else and this full moon seems to remind us that it's not about what we buy or what we own, it's about how we look after ourselves and the people around us. Ethical consumption can be easier said than done but every little change we make makes a difference. Virgo reminds us that the gifts of the earth are just that, gifts, to be honoured and used wisely and well. Our security and stability are important of course but not at the expense of other people and indeed the planet as a whole.
So here's a little tarot wisdom for this full moon;
Moon in Virgo - How can we put our everyday actions in service of the sacred? - Five of Wands
There's a competitive element to this card, a need to fight our corner. It gives an impression of lots of people shouting at once, taking action but at odds with each other, all wanting to be the strongest or most powerful or just the most right. There's lots of creative energy here but as so often with the Fives, it isn't being focused very well. There's also an element of play in this card - perhaps we are simply taking ourselves too seriously.
Sun in Pisces - How can we release our illusions? - Three of Discs
In contrast to the Five of Wands, here there is collective action which is focused and coordinated, a group of people cooperating together to achieve a tangible goal. it's a card which to me at least carries more of a Virgo energy, perhaps appropriate if we see each card as containing its opposite. We release our illusions by doing the work and by doing it together. We release our illusions by doing what needs to be done to achieve our goal, to build our solid foundation.
Aspects to Venus, Uranus - How can we release unhealthy attachments? - Daughter of Discs
Unlike the other cards, this is work we must do alone. The Daughter of Discs is resourceful, curious about the world, seeking to understand, using what she has. Tools for measuring, a vessel for containing. the image on this card shows a young woman embarking on a vision quest, seeking solitude and the dark womb-like space fo the cave behind her. This is a rite of passage we are largely lacking in modern western society, a time of collecting with instinctive knowledge and learning to be self-sufficient. Our need for "stuff" is born of insecurity and to release that need, we can re-connect to meaningful ritual and the ability to trust our own bodies and our own experience.
Two images of community here, those first two cards showing us that working together is key if we are to shift our thinking. And it's also interesting that the water of Pisces has been replaced with the Fire of the Wands, fuelling the hard work of the earth cards and the earth signs. Even in Pisces season when our dreams are strongest, true change comes from action.
