Full Moon Astro-tarot; Truth and Lies and Dragons
The full moon falls at 19° Gemini on December 12th and there's no avoiding noticing that it coincides with a general election here in the UK. Gemini is the sign of information and knowledge, an increasing issue as the election draws closer. The whole election campaign has been characterised by dis-information, fake news, politicians distorting the truth and just refusing to speak at all when they might be challenged. all the truths avoided or exaggerated, ignored or distorted. The duality of Gemini is clear - some hold to their principles and the need to do what is right, others have no principles, no morals, no ethical awareness at all. information is manipulated, technology brings people together but also spreads lies. The mainstream media is controlled by Jupiter in Capricorn over-entitled billionaires who have no compunction in controlling public opinion to their own ends. And so that Gemini duality sees even more "them and us" thinking, so many people voting against the side they have been told to dislike instead of in the best interests of all. I'd like to think that this full moon brings all that division to a head and allows us to move away from it, but it might be Sun in Sagittarius idealism speaking... Choosing to hold the election on a full moon is a risky Sagittarius move. The Moon represents the people in mundane astrology, so this election pits the people directly against the established authorities, represented by the Sun in Sagittarius ruled by Jupiter in Capricorn. The full moon makes awkward quincunx aspects to Venus and Saturn in Capricorn, reminding us that the lack of reliable information leaves us disconnected from what we truly value, from reality as it really is.
Not so random aside - as I type this I'm watching the second Hobbit film, because I'm feeling off colour today and that's what I do when I'm feeling off colour. The evil Necromancer just threatened Gandalf with "there is no light that can defeat the darkness"....I really hope that's not true. And of course Smaug is the Jupiter billionaire sitting on his great Capricorn wealth and caring nothing for those it could help. "I will not part with a single coin. Not one piece of it" Symbolism is everywhere, folks.
And what does this full moon mean for us personally? It asks us to check our assumptions, the basis of our knowledge. Is it based on facts or feelings, logic or intuition? Both are equally valid but they are different kinds of knowing. Discernment is key with this full moon, peeling back layers of conditioning, mental habits long unquestioned, assumptions based on something we heard somewhere and never got around to checking properly. It's time to consolidate our ideas, to share our knowledge with the world, to allow our minds to clear so that the truth can shine out.
Here's my tarot wisdom reading for the full moon, with the Tarot of the Sidhe which I've not worked with for a while but which has been calling to me again lately.
Moon in Gemini - How can we communicate clearly and honestly? - Maker Three
The message here is that substance is needed, not empty words or meaningless promises. More commonly known as the Three of Pentacles, this is a card of sharing skills and coming together to create something that is greater than the sum of its parts. We communicate clearly through our actions and through what is tangible, what we are manifesting in the world.
Sun in Sagittarius - What truth is illuminated? - Maker Four
Well this is clear enough, the Greedy Tree, usually known as the Four of Pentacles. This card is about where we hold on too strongly, where we cling to what we have, not realising that sharing our wealth is so much more powerful. There's insecurity here, and fear as well. This full moon illuminates what we are holding onto out of fear, where we have built structures which keep us safe but also hold back our growth.
Moon quincunx Venus and Saturn - Where do we need to get real? - Dreamer Four
Dreamers in this deck are the equivalent of Swords and this card carries the restful energy of the Four of Swords. We might need to get real about how overwhelmed we are, perhaps by information or by life in general. we need to take a step back and find some inner space. This time of year can be overwhelming anyway here in the norther hemisphere, with pressure from all sides to be busy when nature is telling us to rest, even without the political chaos so many of us are experiencing.
