Monthly Astro Forecast: New Moon in Taurus

May 15 brings a new moon in Taurus, time for some practical magic and abundance. Taurus is the sign of the physical, the first of the earth signs. The spark which was lit in Aries now takes a form, animates it. Here in the UK, we only have to look around us, at this time of year, to see this in action. It's like life - nature, the Goddess, the life force - is playing with form, seeing just how many beauties she can manifest. All the shades of green, a lushness of greens, all the shapes and colours of the flowers, the returning swifts and the chasing squirrels and the avian symphony that is the dawn chorus. Bare feet on the grass, daisy chains, running off road late into the evening (well OK, maybe that last one's just me!). Taurus is the sign of fixed earth, and is a slow moving deep rooted energy. We take our time in Taurus, and what we build here is real. This is the sign of the crafter, the master and the apprentice too. Its the eight of Pentacles in the tarot, practising our skills over and over, working them deep into our muscle memory.
Taurus season is the time to deepen our connection to the land, to visit favourite sacred sites, to move our ceremonies and gatherings outside if we haven't already. Sing to the trees, follow a butterfly, take your sketchbook out to the woods. Venus ruled Taurus honours and enjoys the gifts of all of the senses, and this new moon is the perfect time to set our intents around inviting the abundance of nature into our lives, around manifesting our deepest desires.

Ideally we can carry this groundedness, this connection to our roots forwards with us as we move into the mutable season of Gemini. The Sun moves into Gemini on May 21st, joined by Gemini's ruler Mercury on May 30th. The latter whizzes through their home sign in barely two weeks - Gemini is speedy and always on the move. Our feet may be on solid Taurean earth, but our minds are buzzing with connections. I like to think of Gemini as a web, ideas and people and beings of all kinds connected by many threads, some clear connections and others more subtle. We follow a thread, then the next and the next. This changeable and easily distracted energy is especially strong on the 6th and 7th of June, when first Mercury and then the Sun make challenging square aspects to floaty Neptune in Pisces. We are sensitive, impressionable, our intuition strong. Its up to us whether we heed the messages, or retreat into the apparent safety of Gemini's airy rationality. But as Gemini is well aware, there are many different kinds of knowing.
The fluidity of Gemini is emphasised by Mercury (on 12 June) and Venus (on 19 May) both moving into watery Cancer, where we live from and by our emotions. There may be a confrontation with the shadow, as Venus opposes first Saturn (on 26 May) and then Pluto (on 6 June), both retrograde in Capricorn, reminding us that emotional security is just as compelling a motivation to action as our Taurean drive towards material security.

And I haven't forgotten the small matter of Uranus changing signs into Taurus and bringing the revolution firmly into manifestation. There's a whole other post coming on that....
