Surrendering to Pisces season
With the Sun, Mercury and Venus, as well as outer planets Chiron and Neptune, all currently travelling through Pisces, the season of mutable water is well underway. As I type, there are flurries of snow moving through freezing winds in a sunny sky, and blossom already appearing on some of the trees. Pisces is the final sign of the zodiac, the sign of release and letting go. The sign of the fishes is a portal between dimensions, poised on the threshold between cycles. A time of season transition, as the weather here today shows. Here in the northern hemisphere, the weather gods are shifting their energies from the dark cold of winter to the fertile growth of spring. As with every seasonal transition, Pisces season brings an opportunity to adjust our priorities, to contemplate our path and where we want the next cycle to take us. Spring Equinox, when the Sun moves into Aries and a new cycle of the zodiac begins, marks new year celebrations in some traditions, as well as pagan and Christian celebrations of rebirth and new life.
So Pisces season is the final release of this cycle of the zodiac, our last chance to let go of that which has held us back, to make space for the bright flames of Aries. Pisces is where we dissolve, where we release ego-led ideas of separation and individuality, and return to the source. To spirit, to Great Mystery, to oneness with all. We allow the single droplet that is our individual consciousness to flow back into the cosmic ocean, the collective unconscious. We let go, here, now. We let go of connecting to spirit to gain wisdom or advice from our guides, we let go of our ego-driven search for enlightenment, nirvana, even personal growth. Pisces is not about any of these things, despite being perhaps the most clearly “spiritual” of all the signs. Pisces is about giving service, about surrendering the ego in honour of something greater than ourselves. Pisces is where we connect, with compassion, with empathy. There's a reason the is the sign of exaltation of Venus, the highest manifestation of the principle of love. Pisces is universal love, unconditional love. In the waters of Pisces, we simply are. We connect back to our beingness, to our bliss, to our source. And we listen. We experience.

Meditate. Not with a goal in mind, not to make yourself a better
person (you are perfect just as you are!), just to BE. Meditate by
gazing at running water, at a river or a stream, at the waves of the
sea, and the water in your shower. Sink into the depths of yourself.
Sink past the depths of yourself, in the Otherworld, into the beyond.
Sit with Great Mystery, listen, be.
-
Engage with your empathy, and then offer it in service. Act on your
compassion. Help a friend or a neighbour, volunteer for a charity
close to your heart.
-
Offer unconditional love to yourself. No judgement, no bargains, no
expectations. Accept and honour all of yourself, the parts you like
and especially the parts you don't like. Gaze into the mirror and say
“I love you. No matter what”. Keep doing it, even if you feel
silly, especially if you feel silly. Deep transformation can come
from doing things that make us feel silly. Love yourself for trying,
love your vulnerability, be gently with yourself.

If you're in the Northern hemisphere, consider what you can release
with the cold of winter. What is frozen within you that you can
finally allow to thaw? What outdated emotional patterns can be
carried away with the spring tides?
-
If you're in the Southern hemisphere, consider your harvest, what has
reached its full blooming during this summer season. What flourished,
what wilted and died? What fruits are ripe and luscious, juicy with
seeds to plant in the new cycle?
