Lightening the load
Last Saturday the Sun moved into Gemini, bringing our annual dose of the mercurial energy of the twins. Gemini is the sign of mutable air, so it is versatile and adaptable, concerned with knowledge, the mind and communication. This combination means that the average Gemini is somewhat like the internet - full of information about all sorts of random subjects, prone to follow hyperlink-like tangents, some more constructive than others. Geminis are often accused of knowing a little about a lot of things, full of superficial knowledge but no real depth. This can be a Gemini trait, it's true, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. A strongly Gemini person may well know a little bit about a lot of things, which makes them an interesting dinner party companion and a good conversationalist. The average Gemini has an open and agile mind, shifts perceptions and opinions easily which each new piece of information, and enjoys the new wisdom this brings. This thirst for the new means that Gemini energy is youthful energy, unlikely to become world-weary or stuck in a rut. With three inner planets (Mercury, Venus and Mars) all still in Taurus, at least for now, this lightening of energy can help us to move away from a Taurean need for security and take some risks.
On a deeper level, Gemini's need to make connections reflects the dual nature of the twins. All opposites are here - light and dark, bright and shadow. Seeing both sides helps Gemini to bring opposites together, to find wholeness. Wherever Gemini sits in our chart, whether or not we have planets there, this is likely to be an area where we feel divided. However it's also an area where we are curious, eager to learn, and able to experience the diversity of life in all its colours. This is a good time to communicate with friends old and new, to see what knowledge you can share, to exchange ideas and wisdom. Gemini is also the sign of trade, of giving and taking.
Of course, all this mental agility and information seeking has its downside. Gemini energy can be scattered and lacking in focus. This is a restless energy, so that under its influence we are easily bored, more likely to run after some new and exciting idea than follow the first one through. We may find ourselves so engrossed in our minds that we forget to balance other aspects of ourselves, or we may find our words running away with us and inadvertently hurting those around us. Especially as the other planets move on into Gemini, we may need to pause, to take some time out to assimilate all this exciting new knowledge, to allow the new connections we are making to settle in and go deeper.
