The lightning flash and the fires of growth

Last Friday Uranus moved into Aries, where it joins Jupiter who has been there since January 22nd. These two planets are both concerned with liberation, and together in the fiery cardinal sign of Aries they are brewing up new and exciting challenges. Aries is a pioneer and initiator, marking the astrological new year and the beginning of the zodiac cycle. So fresh beginnings are on the cards, especially in the realms of belief, philosophy and invention. We can see this happening around the world already, with revolutions in the Middle East overturning systems which have been in place for decades. Aries is a passionate sign, full of drive and enthusiasm. It's the sign of the warrior, of asserting the self through action. People with strong Aries energy are likely to be concerned with asserting their independence and to put themselves first. They are likely to be headstrong (Aries rules the head) and self-confident, even to the point of arrogance. However they are also likely to be courageous, willing to take risks and eager to try new things. Aries likes to keep things new and exciting, and Aries people are often better at starting projects than finishing them.
With Jupiter, the planet of growth and expansion, in Aries, all of these energies are enhanced and expanded. Jupiter is known as the 'Great Benefic' and is seen as a positive influence, bringing good fortune and success. Jupiter in Aries expands our ambitions and magnifies our goals. We might reach for the stars and achieve more than we expected, or our "great expectations" might lead us to over-reach and fall to earth with a bump.

Now that Uranus is also enjoying some of this fiery energy, it's time to expect the unexpected. Uranus is the great liberator, breaking us out of old patterns and freeing us from what holds us back. Uranus seeks change, for the sake of it if necessary, and is linked to revolution, invention and technology. In Aries, Uranus is a catalyst, a wake-up call asking us to assert a bold new self, to make radical changes and follow new paths. These two planets bring a rush of energy, as long as we don't let the flames get out of hand. An excess of Jupiterian growth combined with the Uranian lightning flash could lead to destruction, exploding or burning us out if we are not careful.

With Saturn in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn completing a cardinal grand cross, the upheavals and changes we are seeing around the world, whether natural or man-made, are set to continue for some time to come. We have the possibility for deep and far-reaching change, if we meet the challenges ahead with awareness and an open mind. I'm trying really hard not to be cynical about how likely that is.
